A brief description of the book -
The brilliantly funny, unputdownable new novel from Janet Evanovich, No. 1 bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum books Alexandra Barnaby knows how to change a guy's oil and rotate his tyres. "Barney" is less proficient in the finding-a-husband department, but, hey, she's got a well-paid job and total control of the television remote, so the single life has its compensations. Too bad she's about to lose it all, thanks to her worthless baby brother, Wild Bill. He's up to his gonads in trouble after hiring himself out to some shady characters ferrying suspicious cargo to Cuba. Now he's disappeared and Barney's been dispatched to Florida to find him. As if the bugs and heat and bad-hair-day humidity weren't enough, Barney's spending her days making the rounds of Bill's broken-hearted bimbos. And just when she's thinking things can't get much worse, along comes Sam Hooker, stock-car racer and studmuffin, on the trail of his missing boat, The Happy Hooker. A trail that leads to Wild Bill. And since Wild Bill's trail leads to Barney, Sam sets off in pursuit. High stakes, hot nights, murder and crooked deals ensue. Not to mention car chases, car races, car explosions and car sex, as Barney and Sam lay waste to the bad guys and blast their way from Daytona to Key West.
Review:
A sassy and fantastical novel, amusing in places. Alex Barnaby, known to her friends as Barney, is a whizz under a car bonnet which doesn't match up to her love for pink and sparkly attire and her stunning figure. The story unfolds when Barney sets off to untangle her brother "Wild Bill" from his latest scheme which has turned bad. She teams up with a chauvanistic, womanising racing driver named Hooker who has more than just rescuing his stolen boat on his mind, especially when Barney keeps wearing "that" pink skirt! They recruit help from a myriad of unlikely places including a gunwelding cuban woman and the very camp owner of a spice cookie loving dog. Barney has to overcome her greatest fear of heights numerous times whilst fending off Hookers advances in order to aid her sibling. This fast-paced tale does drift once to often into the realms of fantasy to establish itself as a thriller but it is a good fun read full of colourful and sexy characters. (Kirkus UK)
