Item description:

Nicely detailed and unused c. 1935-1943 postcard of the Philippine Clipper, a four-engine Martin M-130 flying boat belonging to Pan American Airways! The boat plane crashed on the morning of 21 January 1943 at Boonville, California, killing all 19 people aboard. Flight 62100 was on a scheduled flight from Oahu, Hawaii to San Francisco, but encountered storms and choppy waters near their destination which led to the crash. It took over a week to locate the boat plane. One of the passengers killed was United States Navy Rear Admiral Robert H. English, Jr., who was commander of the submarine force of the Pacific Fleet and who had commanded the U.S.S. Helena during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. Photo by Clyde Sunderland, and a desirable aviation or Filipino collectible in excellent condition!
