Vintage 1956 From the "Guide Verdesi" Series
"A Week in Rome: A New Guide to Rome & Its Environs"
95 Illustrations, 7 Maps & 1 Plan of City Published by Enrico Verdesi
This is a wonderful vintage travel book, translated into English, describing the city of Rome and its wonders in the years immediately following World War II.
There are more than 90 photographs documenting post-War Rome and the Vatican's historic monuments, palaces, fountains, museums, and art and archaeological treasures, some of which have been lost, damaged or destroyed in the 52 years since this Guide was published.
The book also covers areas outside of Rome proper, including Ostia Antica and the Lido at Ostia, the Alban Hills and the Castelli Romani, Tivoli, Anzio, Nettuno, the Etruscan ruins at Cerveteri, Palestrino, and more.
There are also alphabetical lists of the monuments and the artists, a brief history of Rome, and a special chapter on the notable activities of "Englishmen and Americans in Rome" over the centuries.
This would make a wonderful addition to your vintage travel and exploration library!
Condition
This is a small-format softcover travel guide book in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. It measures approx. 6" x 4-1/4" and contains 273 pages, including indices. As you can see in the scan, the front cover is still brightly colored, with no creases or marks, but slight edgewear and rubbing to the spine. The back cover is lightly discolored from age. The binding is secure, and all pages are present and clean with some age-yellowing around the edges. There are NO clippings or dog-ears; the only mark or writing I see is the original owner's name ink-inscribed on the flyleaf.
Shipping Weight
The book by itself weighs 8 ounces. Packaging will add approximately 4 ounces to this.
