This is one of the series of mid-century Travel Tips guide booklets published by the now-defunct TWA Airlines, for the edification of American travelers to TWA destinations around the world.
This particular booklet was published in 1956, only 11 years after the end of WWII in Europe, but unlike the editions for Germany and France (which I also have listed), this booklet for Italy has not one word about the war!
It does discuss the dress code for a Papal Audience: women "must be dressed very modestly ... black dresses or coats with long sleeves and high necks ... they must also wear veils."
The guide booklet describes food, wine, opera, shopping and sightseeing destinations in Italy. Unlike the German edition, this Italian edition does not list prices for hotels or restaurants.
The booklet also contains Mary Gordon's Tips for Women Travelers, which seem to be concerned primarily with shopping ... although in this edition she recommends that "athletically inclined" women try the "favorite Italian sport of underwater spear fishing"!
This would be a great addition to any TWA or mid-century ephemera collection!
