The front side of the booklet features a drawing of Jára Cimrman’s self-sculpture with the accompanying text:
“Jára Cimrman’s self-sculpture of his head, damaged by hat maker Lešner. Only the two eye sockets (2), two ear holes (3), two chins (5), the bump of a genius (1), and a T-shaped impression (4) after an injury with an iron T-beam are left to be seen.”
The back side contains a barcode, Czech Post’s logo, a hologram used as a security feature, and the following text:
„It is common knowledge that Jára Cimrman made it a rule always to be photographed from a distance and mostly among a large group of people. He refused to be portrayed as he put it, “wie ein Einzelbegriff,” or as an individual concept, because he deemed himself a part of humanity. In spite of this, the Master breached his principle and created his self-portrait (self-sculpture) by his own hands. Its parts, carelessly abandoned among the fire-fighting equipment in the attics of the Liptákov cottage, were found by Dr. Hedvábný in 1966. Its condition was most dilapidated due to the reckless vandalism of hat maker Lešner who used the sculpture as a mold to steam hats, whereby he defaced it. Today’s condition of the self-sculpture is the result of the meticulous diligence of restoration expert Professor Trtílek.“Jára Cimrman’s self-sculpture of his head, damaged by hat maker Lešner, who used the sculpture as a mold to steam hats, whereby he defaced it.
For fifty years, Jára Cimrman has been a source of entertainment and inspiration for millions of Czech people. This is why he was once voted the Greatest Ever Czech. He could hardly have become so famous without the effort of his inventors and experts on Cimrman from the Jára Cimrman Theatre troupe. Following the success of the previous stamp in this series with Jára Cimrman’s self-portrait, this stamp portraying his self-sculpture comes out to commemorate this important jubilee.
